LOGLINE: A rookie female detective on the autism spectrum, opens a secret investigation into her Police Chief father's death and uncovers a covert operation involving trafficking and immigration that is linked to mysteries in her own past.
HOW IT ALL STARTED
The project started as a demo reel/lighting design piece for Ryan Atkins, a local Director of Photography out of Chicago. Ryan felt inspired to showcase a female detective interrogating a sketchy suspect and cast David Weiner and Jennifer A. Goodman for the scene.
Shortly after Ryan cast Jennifer to play his main protagonist, Ryan and Jennifer collaborated on the script.
Quickly, Ryan realized Jennifer's passion for writing, and learned she had greater ideas than he could conceptualize. Jennifer ended up helming the script, expanding the story to several seasons, and created strong characters while keeping true to the core elements.
With the pilot and series in general, the Cast and Crew intend to shed light on several political forces:
-
Women Empowerment - Hopes to spread a message to women that they are no less capable than men
-
Gender Equality - We are all equal and we come from all walks of life.
-
Autism Awareness - How autism plays an integral part in the story which parallels with our Co-Creator, Jennifer who is on the spectrum.
We have a FULL 48 minute pilot episode, a 3 season arc and a 26 page show bible.
The Conrad legacy leads down a twisted path touching upon illegal immigration, human trafficking, and dark family secrets and is a show many people from many walks of life can get into.
THE CONRAD STORY
Conrad is a unique crime/drama centered around Kate Conrad, (Jennifer A. Goodman), who is a police officer on the autism spectrum. Kate works in a male dominant Police Force, where her father, Michael Conrad (Eric Roberts) serves as Chief of Police.
After Kate serves as a resource for a little girl, who is a victim of domestic abuse and rape, Kate receives a promotion to detective. But before the celebration can begin, Kate is faced with the announcement her dad is dead and it being deemed a ‘suicide’.
Stricken by the abrupt loss of her father and role model, Kate is surrounded by doubt that her father's death was in fact, a suicide. Kate won't accept that as truth and will go to all ends to prove otherwise.
But first, Kate becomes engulfed in a crime case involving two immigrant boys, in which evidence to the case peaks her interest, and is disregarded by the rest of the task force.
This, and the reason behind Michael's death becomes the centerfold of a twisted journey. Kate finds herself fighting the judicial system in an effort to prove herself, her beliefs and what she knows is right in a world of hatred, and criminal underground.
During her investigation, Kate begins to discover some unknown truths about herself and what really happened in her past.
